The clients live in a property aptly named The White House. They wanted uncompromising white and brass grandeur. The curveball? A huge, beloved 20-year-old antique-style mirror that had to be the centrepiece.
Usually, we start with a floorplan. Here, we started with a reflection. We selected a spectacular XTONE stone for the island, specifically because its deep golden veins conversed perfectly with the antique mirror frame. In picking this worktop we found a partner for their favourite possession.
The island features a ‘Waterfall Edge’ where the stone cascades down the sides. We had to ‘pattern match’ the veins so they flow over the edge without breaking the visual line.
With 2.7-metre ceilings, we finished it architecturally using the room coving instead of a timber cornice. It looks like the house was built around the kitchen.
The rulebook says “be careful with bold colour.” We threw the rulebook out.
The burnt orange velvet stools add a punch of warmth, while the beloved antique-style mirror takes centre stage, turning a white-on-white room from pristine to personal.
The design achieves a sophisticated balance through restraint. We utilised handleless cabinetry finished in Farrow & Ball All White to create a seamless, architectural backdrop, allowing the XTONE Paonazzo Biondo stone to take centre stage. To add a layer of personal character, we integrated the client’s own antique-style mirror as a primary focal point. This heritage piece, introduces a sense of history and scale that beautifully offsets the clean, contemporary lines of the room.
We positioned the dedicated breakfast station right next to the sink and Quooker tap so that making your morning coffee or bowl of cereal is completely seamless. It creates a lovely, self-contained area where everything you need is within arms reach, from the toaster to the dishwasher. By keeping the ‘morning rush’ tucked away behind those elegant bi-fold doors, the rest of the kitchen stays calm and clutter-free, ready for the day ahead.
The cooking area is anchored by the classic ILVE Milano suite, bringing a professional culinary edge to the home with a range cooker, oven and warming drawer. To support this high-performance set up, we integrated a bespoke cupboard with a built-in spice door rack right next to the range. It keeps every essential within arm’s reach, perfectly balancing the kitchen’s minimalist exterior with intricate, task-specific storage.
