This is such a popular kitchen style. It works anywhere, from a period property to a modern new build. The driving force here is absolute symmetry.
This is huge. Standing 2.6 metres tall, it’s finished internally in gris-belge to match the moody blue exterior cabinetry. The underestimated feature is the stepped shelving – fixed shelves at different depths so you can see the items at the back without having to unpack the whole cupboard. Simple, but brilliant.
We used Cornforth White, a soft white paint colour on the main run of cabinets, but grounded it with a slate backsplash for contrast. The island features a gold Quooker tap and brass handles, picking up the subtle metallic flecks in the stone floor. It’s a colour scheme that avoids the sterile look of pure white.
We loaded this kitchen with the best of the best: Sub-Zero refrigeration and premium large width Wolf ovens.
This kitchen works because it ignores trends and focuses on architecture. The large central canopy anchors the room, and the symmetry creates a sense of calm you can feel as soon as you walk in. It’s big, bold, and perfectly balanced.
In a room of this architectural scale, the layout is all about symmetry and balance. We designed the expansive central island to perfectly frame the large chimney breast, creating a powerful visual anchor that grounds the entire space. Beyond the aesthetics, its scale means it can be multi-functional – large enough for professional grade prep on one side while providing a comfortable, generous area for guests to gather on the other.
The palette was chosen to enhance the room’s symmetry and light. For the island and the cabinetry flanking the chimney breast, we used Cornforth White to maintain an airy, expansive feel at the central focal point. In contrast, the large pantry and Sub-Zero and Wolf appliance housing are finished in a bold, confident Hague Blue.
This interplay, anchored by the slate backsplash and polished brass hardware, creates a space that feels deeply grounded yet perfectly balanced.
The pantry is a true masterpiece of storage, standing at an impressive height of 2.6 metres. When closed, it serves as an imposing piece of furniture, framed by illuminated glass shelves which add a sophisticated glow to the room. Inside, the Hague Blue exterior gives way to a soft Gris-belge finish, revealing a highly engineered space with stepped shelving, dedicated wine bottle storage, and a stone countertop for a coffee station or mixer. With integrated door racks and deep base drawers, it ensures the kitchen remains serene and organised – with all the different storage spaces, you really are spoilt for choice on how to organise your groceries.
When working with Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances, the cabinetry needs to be of equal stature. We integrated these high-performance tools seamlessly into the furniture to ensure they enhance the kitchen’s capability without dominating the aesthetic. The gold Quooker tap and matching hardware act as the ‘jewellery’ of the room, adding a warm, luxurious glow against the cooler tones of the stone and cabinetry exterior.
With such vast ceilings and open architectural volume, the room required materials with enough ‘weight’ to ground the design. The textured, darker surface of the slate provides a rugged, organic counterpoint to the crisp white and deep blue cabinetry. It adds a necessary layer of depth and texture to the chimney breast, ensuring the large expansive proportions of the room feel warm and balanced rather than empty.
